The Best Bath Spout Covers of 2019

Table of Contents

Bathing your baby is probably one of the highlights of your day. With bubbles, bath toys, and your baby’s smiling face, bath time can be a lot of fun for both you and your child. However, it also poses a lot of safety risks. Of course there’s drowning, the number one cause of death from kids ages one to four, according to data from the United States Center for Disease Control. Aside from that terrifying prospect, it’s also easy for babies or toddlers to knock their heads on the faucet, possibly causing brain injuries. Luckily, there’s a simple solution available with bath spout covers. For less than $15, you can rest assured that even if your child bumps their head on the faucet, they will be a-okay. Let’s get started!

Skip Hop Moby Bath Spout Cover

Our overall best bath spout cover is the Skip Hop Moby, a whale-shaped cover available in blue and gray. BPA, PVCA, and Phtalate-free, it’s completely safe for your child to bump against or even lick, if they really wanted to (although I can’t personally advise this).

Pros: The adjustable strap allows the Moby to fit on most tub spouts, while it won’t block access for the shower diverter. You can either wash it by hand or throw it in the dishwasher, which is super convenient. I also love that the rubber it’s made out of is completely resistant to mold and mildew, because you are trying to get your child clean, for Pete’s sake!

Cons: Unfortunately, the Moby isn’t portable, so it’s only for someone who is looking to keep it in one place for a while.

Ifantino Cap The Tap

Something’s fishy! This Ifantino Cap The Tap has an adjustable strap, making it a fit for the majority of bathroom faucets.

Pros: This bath spout cover from Ifantino is made of fast-drying neoprene, meaning mold can be the last thing on your mind. Parents will still be able to access the shower diverter from above. And instead of washing it by hand, you can just throw it in the washing machine with the rest of your laundry!

Cons: Unfortunately, Cap The Tap only comes in one color, so it doesn’t have the most options for your child.

Puj Snug

Elephant-lovers, it’s bath time! The Puj Snug bath spout cover is made of closed-cell foam, meaning that you’ll never have to clean it or worry about mold— because let’s be honest, you have enough on your plate as it is!

Pros: Adults will like the Puj Snug, as it doesn’t prevent you from reaching the shower diverter. It’s completely portable, making it ideal if you’re taking a family vacation. Finally, it’s made from recyclable materials, perfect if you’re environmentally-friendly.

Cons: Unfortunately, you can’t put the Puj Snug in the dishwasher to clean. Rather, you’ll need to hand wash it with soap and warm water.

Boon Flo Faucet Cover

Fitting with most standard faucets, the Bloon Flo combines water deflection and faucet covering to make bath time more safe for your little one. Its shape turns the water flow into a waterfall, which will no doubt impress both kids and parents.

Pros: Made of plastic, the Bloon Flo faucet cover is BpA, phthalate, and PVC free. It comes in blue and green, so you can give your kid some color options. Finally, it’s design allows you to easily create a bubble bath for your child, pouring the soap directly into the Flo to create the bath of your child’s dreams.

Cons: A simple oval, the Bloon Flo isn’t shaped like a character or animal, so it might not be quite as fun as some of the other faucet covers on this list. With small parts, it’s also a choking hazard, so it shouldn’t be used with children under age three.

Cons: This bath spout cover is a little bit pricier than its competition, most of which are prices at around nine dollars. It’s also easy for kids to pull off, which is not a good sign.

Bath Spout Cover Methodology

Bath Spout Cover Methodology
Bath Spout Cover Methodology

When looking for bath spout covers, there are a few different factors to consider:

  • Material: Different materials are more susceptible to mold, so I prefer bath spout covers that aren’t made of plastic but either a quick-drying neoprene or a closed-cell foam.
  • Dimensions: You’ll want to measure your bath faucet beforehand to make sure that it’s cover can fit; typically it is measured in inches.
  • Spout compatibility: Although most bath spout covers have an adjustable strap, making them compatible with most faucets, you want to double check that it’ll work with your faucet before you shell out the money.
  • Safety: Of course, the entire purpose of a bath spout cover in the first place is to prevent your child from getting hurt on the hard metal of the faucet. Some bath spout covers, however, are more protective than others, so you want to make sure it has enough padding to protect your little one from injury.
  • Access for shower diverter: Assuming adults are using the same bathroom, make sure that the bath spout cover still allows you to reach the shower diverter on top, because pushing it aside every day is going to get real tedious real fast.
  • Dishwasher/ washing machine safe: While some bath spout covers can be thrown in the dishwasher or washing machine for cleaning, some must be cleaned by hand with warm water and soap. Of course, I prefer the former options as they mean less work for me!
  • Price: The average price of the bath spout covers that I’ve seen is just over $11, so I wouldn’t stray too far.

Bath Spout Cover Tips

What are some tips while shopping for and using a bath spout cover? Here’s what I’ve found works best:

  • Toxin-free: Toddlers and babies tend to put their mouths on things that an older person would probably avoid, like a bath spout cover. That’s why it’s important that your cover is free of BPA, phthalate, lead, and PVC.
  • Access for shower diverter: If you or any adult in your house uses the same bath as your baby, you’ll want a bath spout cover that still allows easy access to the shower diverter.
  • Beware of mold and mildew: Depending on what material the spout cover is made out of, it may be susceptible to mold and mildew, which are not things you want to combine with your baby’s bath time.
