Home security systems are getting smarter and smarter these days. At the same time, home burglars are stepping up their game with their sophistication. In this never-ending game of cat-and-mouse, it’s a good idea to be on the forefront of new technology when it comes to securing your home. One of these new technologies is the concept of a smart lightbulb. We think this could be a cool new way to add another layer of protection to your home security.
How Do Smart Lightbulbs Work?
The basic concept of smart light bulbs is that over time, the light bulbs will begin to understand your regular lighting schedule. They will get to know when you typically turn on the lights and when you turn them off.
Why Is this Important?
This is important because these light bulbs will mimic your typical lighting schedule when you are away from home. That means when you are on vacation, your house will be well lighted in a way that looks completely natural. If Macaulay Culkin and his family had smart light bulbs in the Home Alone movie, the movie would have been pretty boring because the burglars wouldn’t have tried to break into their house.
What Are Some Other Features?
Response To Doorbell– Some smart light bulbs have the capability to turn on in response to someone hitting the doorbell. This is yet another deterrent for a potential home burglar.
Smartphone Integration– You are able to control everything from your smartphone. The second you go away from your home, you can simply apply the “away” setting to your smartphone and the light bulbs will start to work.
Change Colors- Some light bulbs offer you the ability to change the coloring of the lights. This allows you to pick whatever color scheme you want for a particular mood you are trying to set.
Perfect For Lazy Folks– If you ever feel too lazy to get up and turn a light on, then you can typically just turn the light on from your smartphone. We don’t advocate being this lazy, but if you are, this is a good feature to have.
Will These Light Bulbs Prevent Break-Ins?
It’s hard to say that this technology will prevent break-ins, but they will certainly add another deterrent to someone considering breaking into your home. We think the technology is really cool and isn’t overly expensive. With that said, why not give them a shot?
