How To Prevent Daytime Burglaries

Daytime BurglariesEven though it is true that the majority of burglaries take place at night, that doesn’t mean that your home is immune to potential daytime burglars. If a burglar sees that your home is empty, they may well just attempt to break in even though it is daylight. This is especially true if you live in an area that you would consider to be quiet. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to prevent things like this from happening. Here we will look at how you can greatly lower the risk of daytime burglaries.

Alter Your Routine

If a burglar is planning on breaking into your home during daylight, it means they will need to know exactly what time you tend to leave the house and when you return. If you can, try and change your routine in any way you can just to make yourself a little more flexible. Just doing this will put burglars off the idea of breaking in. If they can’t predict when the place will be empty, they will not want to risk breaking in and being caught.

Keep Windows And Doors Locked

This may seem like the obvious thing to do, but many people do forget to complete this simple task. Many people will leave windows open that they have open all the time when they go out. When you do this, it really is an open invitation for thieves to try and get in. Make sure that all windows and doors are closed and locked every time you leave the house, even if you are only planning on being absent for an hour at the most.

Don’t Show Off Valuables

While you may not have anything of great value on display from say the front window, but that doesn’t mean that you do not have valuables on show. If you have a rather big discarded cardboard box in the trash, this could be an indicator to a burglar that you have something of value inside. Try and tear up your cardboard boxes whenever you can and make sure that the logo on the side is not in plain sight as well. This is the only invitation burglars need to start targeting your house, so it’s best to make sure that you do not give them any incentives.
