Tile Style vs. Tile Sport Comparison

Tile is perhaps the most recognizable brand in Bluetooth trackers today. With over 20 million products sold around the world, their products lead the industry in range, smart platform integrations, and more. It’s no wonder that Tile holds 80% of the U.S market share for Bluetooth trackers!

In this review, I’ll go over the Tile Combo Pack- Style and Sport, a bundle of two separate trackers. We’ll talk design, features, and last but not least, the Tile app. Let’s get started!

Style and Sport Design

Personally, I’m loving the look of the Tile Combo Pack, especially the Style. If you’re not aware, gold accents are very big right now, and I love how the different textures create a subtle juxtaposition. The Sport is slightly larger than the Style, at 40 mm across compared to the Style’s 37.5 mm. Both Tiles, however, are only 5.9 mm thick. While the Sport weights 15 grams, the Style only weights 11. Think of it as the Sport’s thinner and more glamorous sister.

The Tile Sport

Both the Sport and Style will connect to your app through Bluetooth LE. They both have keyring holes and built-in 98 decibel sirens, about as loud as a motorcycle riding or a handheld drill. While the Tiles both have a range of 200 feet, their sirens are so loud that they could help you find objects even out of that range, depending on how well you hear.

The Tile Style

The Style and Sport may be attractive, but that doesn’t mean they’re not strong. With high IP ratings of 68, these trackers are completely dust tight and hermetically sealed. You can even continuously immerse them in water and they still won’t break! Even in temperatures from 14 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, these trackers will continue to function normally.

The only negative of the Style and Sport’s design is that they don’t have replaceable batteries. That means that once the batteries are out, you’ll have to buy new trackers. However, Tile has a program called reTile which gives you replacements for a discount, so that’s something to keep in mind.

Style and Sport Features

Now that I’ve talked about the combo pack’s design, I want to talk about what the Style and Sport can do. Trust me— they’re more than just pretty faces.

Community Find

Tile’s Community Find Feature

Say your Tile is more than 200 feet away and you can’t hear the siren. Is it lost forever?

The answer is a resounding no. As long as your Tile is within 200 feet of any Tile app in the world, you’ll be able to find it. All Tile apps automatically detect all the Tiles in their range, without the user even knowing about it. Once a Tile app detects a Tile, it will notify its owner and no one else. CommunityFind is 100% automatic and anonymous, so you don’t have to worry about strangers accessing your location or data. Keep in mind that 80% of Bluetooth trackers in the U.S are made by Tile, so naturally, they have more app users than any of their competitors. The size of the Tile community means that you’re more likely to find your missing object when it’s out of range.

Tile Premium

If the Tile Combo Pack’s basic functions aren’t enough for you, there’s Tile Premium, available for $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year. When you sign up for Tile Premium, you’ll receive:

  • Smart alerts: get alerted if you leave your Tile at home.
  • Location history: you’ll be able to see where your Tile has traveled in the past 30 days.
  • Unlimited sharing: share access to your Tile with an unlimited amount of family, friends, and confidantes.
  • Premium customer support: you’ll have access to an exclusive text help line staffed by (gasp!) real humans.

While Tile Premium also offers free battery replacements and an extended warranty, these features don’t apply to the Sport and Style, as their batteries are non-replaceable. Given this distinction, I personally don’t think that buying Tile Premium is necessary unless you constantly leave your keys or wallet at home.

Smart Platform Integrations

Both the Sport and Style integrate with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you’ll be able to ask your smart home to find your wallet. Welcome to 2019!

Installing the Tile Style and the Tile Sport

Setting up your Tile Style and Sport is an incredibly simple process. After you download the Tile app and create your account, you’ll click on the plus sign to add a device. Then, press the Tile button in the middle of each tracker and a tune will play. Next, you’ll place the trackers next to your device and they’ll sync, so long as Bluetooth is on. From there, all you have to do is name your tracker based on what it is tracking, i.e keys, wallet, phone, etc and you’re all set!

The Tile App

tile-app-review
The Tile App

The Tile app is how you’ll find your lost items, help other people find their lost items (not that you’ll be aware of this, of course), and see where you had your item last within range. You can also use the Tile app to have your phone ring, even if it’s on silent.

I’m pleased to see that the Tile app has generally positive reviews. Apple users gave it a 4.5 star rating while Android users gave it a 4.2 star rating.

“Does as advertised and works! Can’t tell you how many times this has come in handy for me. Great product. I also really like the rings. They sound like classic eight bit video game songs… Sort of rewarding to hear them as I retrieve my lost items!”

wrote Android user Michael Silicz in a five-star review.

Recap of the Tile Combo Pack- Style and Sport

tile-style-tile-sport-review
Tile Style and Tile Sport

Overall, I’m impressed with the Style and Sport Combo Pack. Clearly, Tile knows what they’re doing, or they wouldn’t be so popular. But I still haven’t really answered the question— is the Tile Style and Sport right for you?

The answer is yes if you like the following:

  • Hermetically sealed: these are the most weather and water-resistant trackers that Tile has to offer.
  • 200-foot range: the Style and Sport can be found through your app so long as they’re within 200 feet.
  • CommunityFind: benefit from Tile’s majority market share in the United States.
  • Integrations with Alexa and Google Assistant: use your smart home to help find missing objects.
  • Highly rated app: the Tile app has an average customer rating of about 4.3.
  • Easy installation: You don’t need to be tech-savvy in the slightest to set up either tracker.

However, if these are deal breakers, I would steer clear:

  • Non-replaceable batteries: once the Sport and Style’s batteries run out, they’ll be pretty much useless.
  • Only available from third-party sellers: this combo pack is not available from the manufacturer itself, so prices may vary greatly.

I would definitely recommend the Tile Combo Pack- Style and Sport. Let us know if you have any additional comments or burning questions!
