Cube Tracker Bluetooth Tracker Review

If you’re constantly losing things like me, then you should give Bluetooth trackers a shot. They’re little tags that you can attach to items important to you, like your keys or wallet. The tags communicate to your phone using Bluetooth, so you’ll be able to track their location. Pretty nifty, right?

When it comes to selecting a Bluetooth tracker, though, you might be a little overwhelmed. Is there a big difference between brands, and what are some features you should look out for?

In this review, I’ll give you the low-down on the Cube Tracker, the original tracker from Cube. Unfortunately, Cube’s website has little to no information about the company in general, but after doing my research, I’ve find out enough to help you make an informed decision. We’ll go over the Cube Tracker’s design, its features, and finally, the Cube app. Let’s get into it!

Cube Tracker Design

Cube Tracker

As you can see, the Cube Tracker is diamond-shaped with rounded edges in a sleek black. It’s 1.5 inches on each side and only .2 inches thick, so it won’t add much weight if you attach it to your keys. But don’t take its small size as a bad thing— the Cube Tracker comes with an 80 decibel siren built-in. That’s about as loud as a passing diesel truck or a snow blower. I have to say I wish the siren was a little louder, as this seems easy to miss from far away.

The Cube Tracker has an 100-foot range, which is average for Bluetooth trackers. It works in temperatures from negative four to 150 degrees Fahrenheit, a bigger range than most. Plus, it has an IP rating of 67, which means that it’s completely dust tight and can be immersed in up to 1 meter of water. So you can rest assured that if you lose your Cube Tracker, it will be able to withstand the elements.

The last thing I’ll say about the Cube Tracker’s design is that it has a replaceable battery with a life of one year. This is great because it means you can just keep replacing the battery rather than having to buy a completely new Tracker every time. Now let’s see what this baby can actually do.

Cube Tracker Features

Cube Tracker Features on Box

Obviously, the main function of the Cube Tracker is to track your items like wallets, keys, dogs, what have you. But what if your item is well outside of your 100 foot range?

Crowd Find

Cube’s Crowd Find Feature

If that’s the case, just mark it as lost on your Cube app and then every Cube app will be attuned to automatically look for it. If the item shows in within a Cube network’s range, you’ll be privately notified.

How big is the Cube network? While I don’t have access to exact numbers, I can tell you that Cube is a smaller player in Bluetooth trackers. Let’s compare it to Tile, a company that claims to have 80% of the U.S market share for Bluetooth trackers. While the Tile app has 9,600 ratings on the Apple store, the Cube Tracker app has 810 reviews. The difference on the Google Play store is even more stark. Cube has only 123 reviews, while Tile has well over 18,000.

Marking the Cube Tracker as Lost

The number of app reviews seems to be a good indicator of size, as anyone with either device would need to download the app to use it. Obviously, the more downloads an app has, the more reviews it has, so we can definitely conclude that Cube is a smaller tracker outlet. Consequently, Cube’s relatively small network size will make it less likely that your Cube will be found by Crowd Find.

Smart Platform Integrations

Amazon Alexa

Unfortunately, the Cube Tracker does not have any smart platform integrations, although the company claims partnerships with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant are on the way. This is a bit disappointing, but hopefully that update will come soon.

Shutter Button

Taking Selfies on the Cube App

The most unique feature of the Cube app is that you can use it as a shutter button to take selfies. Simply open up the app, tell it which Cube you’d like to set as your shutter button, click on the camera icon and snap away. Capturing your good side has never been easier!

Installing the Cube Tracker

Installing the Cube Tracker

Setting up the Cube Tracker took less than a minute. I already had my Cube app and account set up, so all I add to do was click on the plus sign in the top right corner and then select the Cube Tracker. Next, I held down the button on the tracker itself for about five seconds, until I heard a tune. Finally, I placed it next to my phone and the two synced together. I named it after the item I was using it to track and bam, my Cube Tracker is completely set up.

The Cube Tracker App

The Cube App

The Cube app is where you’ll track your items, as well as help find other people’s stuff. You can also use it to ring your phone, even if its on silent, or select which Cube you’d like to use as your shutter button.

Cube has a wonderful 4.8 star rating on Apple. A user wrote of her experience,

“I lost my keys at Home Depot. It fell in a small hole in the paint department. I went to the app and pressed find and I could hear the signal faintly. My keys would have never been found had it not been for this little gizmo,”

in a five-star review.

Unfortunately, the Cube app only has a 2.8 star rating on the Google Play store. This is a stark difference, one that I don’t see too often. The majority of the reviews from Android users were one star. Many said that their app simply didn’t pick up on the Cube Tracker, and often disconnected.

Recap of the Cube Tracker

Cube Tracker on Keys

At only $24.95, the Cube Tracker is reasonably priced. However, it does have its drawbacks, like:

  • Doesn’t work well for Android users: many said the device was basically useless with their Cube Tracker apps.
  • No smart platform integrations: you won’t be able to use vocal commands to find the Tracker.
  • Relatively small range: 100 feet is on the lower end of ranges.
  • Siren not super loud: you may not be able to hear the Cube Tracker, especially if its in a drawer.
  • Smaller Cube network: as Cube is a small fish in the world of Bluetooth trackers, their network will be smaller as well.

However, it’s worth it if you’re tickled by the idea of:

  • Temperature range from negative four to 150 degrees: this may be good for someone who lives in extreme weather conditions.
  • IP rating of 67: the Cube Tracker is built to survive even immersion in water.
  • Great reviews on Apple store: if you have an iPhone, the Cube Tracker will most likely connect well with it.
  • Replaceable battery: no need to buy a new Cube Tracker when the battery dies.
  • Shutter button feature: if you’re a selfie queen, the Cube Tracker will definitely be your new best friend.
  • Easy installation: Setting up the Cube Tracker took me about a minute.
