At CES 2019, Lenovo unveiled the Lenovo Smart Clock, which integrates with smart home platform Google Assistant. With a four-inch IPS touchscreen, the clock allows the user to use voice control in addition to touch control. Along with the touchscreen, the clock has a fabric cover, a USB port for charging, a full-range 6W speaker, and two passive radiators to tune out background noise. Users can connect the Lenovo Smart Clock to a home speaker group to play music, podcasts, audiobooks, and more. Alternatively, users can stream their Lenovo Smart Clock with Chromecast.
The Lenovo Smart Clock is designed to cultivate better sleep habits in the user. Through Google Assistant, users can set up sleep routines like dimming the lights, and displaying calendar events with the voice command “Hey Google, good night”. Due to the fact that too much screen time before bed can negatively affect a user’s ability to fall asleep, using voice commands through Google Assistant is a healthy alternative to looking at screens. In addition, users can ask Google Assistant to play guided meditation or relaxing music through the clock’s speaker. For wake-up, users can customize lights and have the alarm gradually increase volume starting a half hour from the wake-up time. From there, the Google Assistant can be programmed to tell you the weather, reminds, schedules, or your commute.
The Lenovo Smart Clock can also be paired with other connected devices to create convenient smart home automations. For example, a user can have their coffee marker turn on automatically upon wake-up. The smart clock supports over 10,000 products from 1,000 brands and partners. When it’s not being used, users can put the Lenovo Smart Clock on mute so it won’t listen for its pick-up word. Instead, the four-inch screen will simply display the time with customizable clock faces.
In addition to the Lenovo Smart Clock, Google Assistant has expanded into many speakers with smart displays, competing with the Amazon Echo Show. Lenovo’s Smart Display with Google Assistant is available for $200 to $250, depending on the size of the screen. Along with the Smart Lock, Lenovo has announced a new line called Smart Home Essentials, which will feature a camera, plug, and bulb. The Lenovo Smart Clock specifically will be available for $79.99 in spring 2019.
