Ring Retrofit Alarm Kit Works With Traditional Systems

Update: The Ring Retrofit Alarm Kit is now available for immediate order on the Ring website, while it’s only available on Amazon for pre-order until December 11th, 2019.

The Ring Retrofit Alarm Kit is now available for pre-order on the Ring website along with Amazon. With a price of $199, it will be released on December 11th of this year. This kit lets homeowners integrate their existing wired contact sensors into the Ring Alarm system. The kit requires not only the Ring Alarm security system, but also an Alexa device or hub like the Amazon Echo Show. Using this device, users can control all of their security components within the Ring— Always Home app.

The Ring Retrofit Alarm Kit must be placed in 250 feet of the base station. It comes with a one-year limited warranty and has a battery life of five years, given there are 100 events per day. The device itself can be mounted to a wall with either double-stick tape or mounting hardware.

By speaking to Alexa, users can arm, disarm, and check the status of any Alexa-enabled devices. Although most Ring components have DIY installation, the company recommends getting the Retrofit Alarm Kit professional installed by a licensed professional.

Ring Alarm Security System Updates

In addition to this new product release, Ring has announced two new updates to Ring Alarm:

  • Guest user scheduling: Users can set specific dates and times for guests to arm and disarm the alarm system. Previously, guests had this ability 24/7.
  • Cancel alarm feature: If the alarm is triggered and then the system is disarmed soon after, Ring will call the user to see if help is needed for if it was a false alarm.

Owned by Amazon, Ring is one of the most popular smart home security companies in the United States. Their products include security cameras, security systems, smart lights, and video doorbells for homes and businesses. The Retrofit Alarm Kit is Ring’s latest product, although new device and service announcements are frequent.
