The Best Reflective Address Signs of 2019

Table of Contents

You may not think of a reflective address sign as a security measure, but trust me, it is. Say one of the alarms in your home security system goes off and you call the police. Of course, they’re going to rush over just as soon as they can, but what would make them arrive even faster would be a sign that they can’t miss, namely, a reflective address sign. It should be large, double-sided, and reflective enough that it’s visible even in pitch black conditions. Well, I’ve scoured the Internet and tested many reflective address signs to see which ones are best, and here are my top picks. Let’s get started!

Your reflective address sign doesn’t have to be purely utilitarian. It can also be attractive, with the Whitehall Reflective Address Sign, pleasantly framed in a shiny black arch

Pros: The Whitehall Reflective Address Sign costs less than half of the industry average, so it’s great if you’re looking to save. It measures 16.5 inches from top to bottom, making it visible from the street. Plus, it’s double-sided, an essential quality in a reflective address sign.

Cons: Although the Whitehall Reflective Address Sign is made out of plastic, it’s not the most weatherproof model I’ve ever tested, so I recommend it for those that live in moderate or warm climates.

Address America Yard Sign

If you’re looking for an address sign with a touch of class, then look no further than the Address America Yard Sign. It’s black steel sign develops into a beautiful rose and vine, elevating your address sign from a utility into public art.

Pros: I love that the Address America Yard Sign is available in 30, 48, or 60 inches, as that gives you the most options for your home. It’s made of steel, so it definitely can last through all four seasons. It’s material also means that it’s water-resistant, idea if you live in a rainy climate.

Cons: Although I’m glad that the Address America Yard Sign comes with a stake, this one is plastic and pretty flimsy.

Reflective Address Sign Methodology

Reflective Address Signs Methodology

Just how did I select the best reflective address signs of the year? I look for a few key factors, including:

  • Size: The majority of the address signs that I tested were about 15 to 20 inches in one direction and about four to six inches the other, as there was a mix of vertical and horizontal signs. Obviously, you want your sign to be big enough to be noticeable, but make it too big and you might have a bit of an eyesore on your lawn.
  • Color options: Address signs tend to be in pretty basic colors like blue, black or white, but I have seen more colorful options if you want to match them to your house.
  • Material: Ideally, reflective address signs are made of aluminum, which is rust free and actually what highway signs are made out of. Plastic might be acceptable if you live in a climate without harsh winters, rain or winds, although it’s not ideal for most climates. Steel also works, although ti’s going to be much more expensive than it’s aluminum counterparts.
  • Double-sided: This may seem obvious, but you want your address sign to be visible from both directions, especially if you live on a two-way street.
  • Mounting: While some address signs attach to your mailbox, some come with stakes so you can install them in your front yard. Of course, you should base your mounting style off of the design of your home’s front yard, as this will differ greatly from household to household.
  • Price: The average reflective address sign that I’ve reviewed cost around $33, although I’ve seen some available from the ranges of $20 to $70 for those higher-priced steel signs I mentioned.

Reflective Address Sign Tips

What are some best practices for installing your reflective address sign? I thought you’d never ask…

  • Get a landline: Okay, this may not be directly about address signs, but when you call 911 from a landline, they automatically have your address, while calls from cell phones can delay that information. We all know that landlines are a bit passé, but they can really come in handy in case of an emergency, working with a reflective address sign to get you help as quickly as possible.
  • Mark entrances: Along with a sign on your mailbox, you should mark the entrance to your home, be it at the end of the driveway or your front door, with a reflective sign to help emergency services out even more.
  • DIY: If you’re really looking to save money, you can make your reflective yard sign yourself using wood, paint, house letters, and a few other basic materials. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty!
