50 Safest Cities
Located in the Pacific Northwest and bordering California, Idaho, Washington, Nevada, and the Pacific Ocean, Oregon is an interesting mix of city and nature. Its largest cities include Portland, Salem, Eugene, Hillsboro, Beaverton, and Grasham, with Salem being the state’s capital. With a Gross Domestic Product of $198.7 million, according to the United States Department of Commerce, the state’s main industries include agriculture, timber, tourism, paper products and even Christmas trees! That’s not super surprising, considering Oregon’s natural wonders. It has Hells Canyon, the deepest river gorge in the country and Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the country at 1949 feet deep! Make sure you’re a confident swimmer before going in either body of water.
Whether you’re moving to Oregon or just visiting, here are some sights that you can’t afford to miss:
- Crater Lake National Park: With a caldera lake and a beautiful ledge, this park has over 183,000 acres of gorgeous nature.
- Multnomah Falls: This cascading waterfall is over 600 feet tall, an amazing sight on your hike.
- Timberline Lodge and Ski Area: For those that like to ski and swim alike, stay in this 1930s-era lodge with delicious dining options.
Oregon’s safest city is Junction City, an area in Lane County. With a population just over 6,000 people, this city saw only .32 violent crimes and 1.94 property crimes for every 1,000 residents, which is pretty incredible. It’s even more impressive when you see that both of these crimes are on the decline! Whether you’re passing through or settling down to raise a family, Junction City is an area that you can feel safe and secure.
This statistic shows the number of violent crimes per 1,000 people in the past year. Violent crimes include forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, as defined by the FBI.
Finally, this number shows how many property crimes were committed in the past year per every 1,000 of the city’s residents. Property crimes include burglary, motor vehicle theft, arson and larceny-theft.
