50 Safest Cities
If you like country music, comfort food, and gorgeous natural sights, then Tennessee is the state for you. With a population just shy of 6.5 million people, the state’s biggest cities include Memphis, Knoxville, Clarksville, Chattanooga, and don’t forget their capital, Nashville. Aside from tourism, their main industries include a ton of agriculture (think chickens, apples, and peaches galore), automobile manufacturing, and textiles. The name Tennessee itself comes from the name of a Cherokee Nation village, Tanasi. This land locked state is in the Deep South, bordering Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkanssa, Missouri, and Virginia. Spanning over 41,000 square miles, Tennessee has it all, from the Mississippi River the Clingmans Dome. Of course, you can’t forget about the state’s many bodies of water aside from the Mississippi River, like the Kentucky Lake, Douglas Lake, the Tennessee River, and more.
If you’re on this page, it’s probably because you’re either moving to Tennessee or planning a trip there. Either way, here are some things that you just can’t miss:
- Graceland: The former home of Elvis Presley is now a museum featuring tours, two jets, and even a car museum.
- Cades Cove: Make sure you head over to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park to see beautiful wildlife and homesteads.
- Ruby Falls: This amazing, 145 foot underground waterfall is located in the Lookout Mountain inside a limestone cavern.
No matter what brings you to Tennessee, safety and security are always a concern. The safest city in Tennessee is Church Hill in Hawkins County. With a population of 6,739 people, the city only saw .74 violent crimes and 4.01 property crimes for every 1,000 residents, which is amazing. Both numbers are down from the previous year, which makes me confident about its safety. Other top picks include Signal Mountain, Oakland, and Brentwood.
This statistic shows the number of violent crimes per 1,000 people in the past year. Violent crimes include forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, as defined by the FBI.
This statistic shows how many motor vehicles were stolen per 1,000 of the city’s inhabitants. Across the United States, the rate was 238.8 per every 100,000 inhabitants, according to the FBI.
Finally, this number shows how many property crimes were committed in the past year per every 1,000 of the city’s residents. Property crimes include burglary, motor vehicle theft, arson and larceny-theft.
