Texas’s
50 Safest Cities

2019

The stars at night, are big and bright! Texas, otherwise known as the Lone Star State, was originally part of Mexico before being admitted to the United States in 1845. It’s a gigantic state of over 261,000 square miles. In fact, it’s so big that the Dallas-Fort Worth area alone has a large population than that of 39 of the other states! Geographically, the state is so wide that El Paso is closer to the border of California than it is to Dallas. Plus, the state has an interesting history. Aside from its current position in the United States, it’s also been a part of Mexico, France, the Confederacy, the Republic of Texas, and even Spain! And don’t forget about their professional sports teams. Texas has everything from the Dallas Cowboys to the Houston Texans to the San Antonio Spurs. Oh, and as far as cities go, there’s a plethora, including Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and El Paso, to name a few.

There’s tons of things to see and do in Texas, including:

  • Big Bend National Park: If you love nature, you’ll enjoy over 800,000 acres of rivers, deserts, wildlife and mountains in this beautiful wilderness.
  • The Alamo: Make sure to remember to go to the Alamo! It’s a fort and museum with artificants, gardens, and tours.
  • Padre Island: Right off the coast of Texas’ southern border, this island includes a wonderful beach with rare sea turtles.

No matter what brings you to Texas, the safety of you and your loved ones is always a concern. The safest city in Texas is Kermit, and no, I’m not talking about the frog. Rather, Kermit is a city in Winkler County with a population of 6,459 people. Amazingly, the city saw no violent crimes and only 2.17 property crimes per 1,000 people, both numbers decreased from the previous year. Other top picks include Melissa, Colleyville, and Fairview.

4.389

This statistic shows the number of violent crimes per 1,000 people in the past year. Violent crimes include forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, as defined by the FBI.

2.404
This statistic shows how many motor vehicles were stolen per 1,000 of the city’s inhabitants. Across the United States, the rate was 238.8 per every 100,000 inhabitants, according to the FBI.
25.626

Finally, this number shows how many property crimes were committed in the past year per every 1,000 of the city’s residents. Property crimes include burglary, motor vehicle theft, arson and larceny-theft.

How Did We Determine the Safest Cities?

Of course, this isn’t just the safest cities according to personal opinion. Rather, we used the FBI’s 2017 and 2016 Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) data to choose our top picks, based on factors like:

  • Murder rate
  • Rape rate
  • Robbery Rate
  • Assault rate
  • Burglary rate
  • Theft rate
  • Vehicle theft rate
  • Arson rates
  • Median Income

For each city, we’ll provide the most important information that you need to know, such as the city’s population, violent and property crime rates and trends, median income, average household income, and an overall safety score and ranking. Plus, we’ll show you all the specific numbers for the above rates, in addition to larceny theft rates and the total number of civilians working in law offices.
