Bulbrite Standard 40W Review

Table of Contents

Do you remember the Clapper? All you needed to do to turn on or off your lights was clap, it was rather jarring. Fortunately, we are past that era, and firmly in the era of smart light bulbs. Smart light bulbs let you control them remotely, through a voice assistant, or through a schedule. In this review, I’m checking out the Standard 40W from Bulbrite, a lesser known company that I’m still excited to test out nonetheless. From it’s design to it’s features to actually installing the Bulbrite Standard 40W, let’s see how it works and if it’s worth it’s $29.99 price tag.

Upon first glance, the Bulbrite Standard 40W looks just like any light bulb, but it is far from it. Instead of being incandescent, it’s LED, meaning it’ll last a lot longer. You can dim it for some mood lighting, but unfortunately it only comes in white, so the color options are extremely limited.

Of course, it’s in the standard lamp base size of E26 and the shape A19, making it perfect for most lamps.

Now, what really sets the Bulbrite Standard 40W apart from any old light bulb is the fact that you can control it remotely through Bulbrite’s app, which I’ll talk about more in a second. You can also put the bulb on schedules so it turns off and on automatically throughout the day, or create scenes, groups of bulbs that you can control at once, up to 12 to be exact.

Smart Light Bulb Schedules

If you rise with the sun and vice versa, then you’ll love that the Bulbrite Standard 40W has a sunrise/ sunset mode, which syncs it with the beginning and end of each day.

Multiple users can control the Bulbrite Standard 40W through the Bulbrite app, so long as they have your login information. Finally, the bulb works with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing for voice commands.

Installing the Bulbrite Standard 40W

Installing the Bulbrite Standard 40W doesn’t require a hub, so it’s as simple as screwing the bulb in and syncing it with the Bulbrite app. Which brings me to my next point…

The Bulbrite App

The Bulbrite app was pretty hard for me to find. It’s called Bulbrite Solana— Smart LED Lighting on the Google Play store and Bulbrite Solana Smart Lights on the Apple store. The app is where you’ll remotely control the Bulbrite Standard 40W, create scenes, schedules, as well as smart platform integrations. While the app doesn’t have any rating on the Google Play store, it has a perfect five-star rating on the Apple store, which is good to see. One iPhone user wrote in a recent five star review,

“Very pleased with how these bulbs operate. Once out of the box I had it running from the app and my Alexa within minutes.”

Recap of the Bulbrite Standard 40W

And that’s it for my review of the Bulbrite Standard 40W! Overall, I would definitely recommend it. It has most of the features that I look for in a smart light bulb, and at $29.99, it’s at a very standard price across the industry.

Buy the Bulbrite Standard 40W if you’d like…

  • Highly-rated iPhone app: The Bulbrite iPhone app has a five star rating, meaning users could easily control the bulb remotely.
  • Integrations with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant: Whether you’re in the Amazon or Google smart home ecosystems, this bulb lets you control it using your voice only.
  • Schedules, scenes, and sunrise/ sunset mode: The Bulbrite Standard 40W has all of the basic features that I look for in a smart light bulb, making it easy for you to control your lighting.

But avoid it if you were looking for…

  • Multicolor: The Bulbrite Standard 40W is white only, so you can’t set the mood as much as you could with a multicolor bulb.
  • Energy monitoring: You won’t be able to see how much energy the Bulbrite Standard 40W is using through it’s app.
  • Geofencing: You won’t be able to hook up the Bulbrite Standard 40W with the GPS on your phone, having it turn off automatically when you leave and vice versa.

That’s it from me! To learn about some more great options, check out my list of the best smart light bulbs of 2019.
