If you’ve heard of eufy before, it’s probably for their robot vacuums, but that’s not all they offer. As a part of Anker Innovations, they make smart home products to help you with cleaning, lighting, security, and even your health. Today, I’m reviewing their Lumos smart bulb, and I can’t wait to get started.
In this review, I’ll go over the eufy Lumos smart bulb’s design, its features, its installation process, and finally, its mobile app. Let’s begin!
Design of the eufy Lumos Smart Bulb
My light bulb can be any color of the rainbow, including white. It’s LED, which I like because it uses less energy. According to eufy, this bulb should last for 16 years with an estimated yearly energy cost of only $1.50– pretty impressive! It connects to your app through Wi-Fi. The bulb is dimmable and has the brightness of a 60 watt incandescent bulb, although it only utilizes nine watts of energy. The bulb’s shape is A19 and its lamp base E26, both industry standards.
Now let’s move on to the fun stuff- the bulb’s features.
Features of the eufy Lumos Smart Bulb
If you’re not home, the chance that someone will break into your house increases exponentially. It seems obvious, but what are you supposed to do? Stay home 24/7?
Now, you can fool people into thinking you’re home when you’re not with away mode. The eufy Lumos smart bulbs can turn on and off in a pattern to make outsiders believe you are home even when you’re not. So it’s not just a light bulb- it’s also makeshift security system (although I would recommend having a larger security system as well).
Aside from that, you’ll be able to put your Lumos bulbs on schedules so they’re turn off and on automatically depending on the time of day. After all, there’s nothing worse than having to get out of your comfy bed just because you forgot to turn that far away lamp off! You can create up to ten schedules, which I find a little limiting but it’s probably sufficient if you’re like 90% of the population who does the same thing everyday. You can also make scenes, which are basically groups of lights in a customizable combination. Create lighting for study, cooking, dancing- whatever is it that you do in your home (we won’t judge).
Through eufy’s app, which I’ll talk about in detail in a bit, you can control multiple light bulbs at once, with multiple users having access. If you prefer, you can vocally command your lights using Amazon Alexa. Unfortunately, eufy does not have any integrations with Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit, or any other smart home platform.
If you’re down for a dance party, you’re in luck. The Lumos smart bulbs have a music mode in which lights change with the beat. You can even use flow mode to create a customized multicolored light show! Congratulations: your living room just became the hottest dance club in town.
Unfortunately, the eufy Lumos smart bulb does lack some of the features of its competitors. For example, the bulb doesn’t have any energy monitoring features, so you won’t be completely in the know about how much energy it’s using. I’m also disappointed the bulb cannot sync with other connected devices, as this can make your life even more convenient- imagine your security system sensors automatically turning on when the lights go out!
In the same vein, eufy doesn’t offer geofencing, so you won’t be able to have the lights come on or off automatically based on the location of your phone. Finally, there is no sunrise/ sunset mode that’ll automatically detect when your day ends or begins, so you’ll need to enter schedules manually.
The EufyHome App
The EufyHome app is your mobile command center. From here, you’ll be able to control whether the bulbs are on or off as well as their dimness, temperature, and color. You’ll be able to share access with other users, create schedules and scenes, and connect your bulbs to Alexa. The app is fairly well-reviewed, with a 4.3 rating from the Apple store and a 3.5 rating on the Google Play store. Clearly, this app works better with iPhones that it does Androids, which is something to keep in mind.
