AUKEY Smart Plug Review

Table of Contents

AUKEY, all-caps intended, makes everything from USB-C cords to Bluetooth audio products. As one of Amazon’s top ranked sellers, they’re available in over 50 countries from the Middle East to Latin America to North America. I ordered the AUKEY smart plug which has the ability to turn any old device into a smart device. For example, you can connect it with your oven and control whether it’s on or off from the AUKEY Home app, Amazon Alexa, or Google Assistant. That’s pretty cool, especially because I’m always wondering if I remembered to shut the oven off.

In this AUKEY smart plug review, I’ll talk about the plug’s design, features, how well it works, how easy it was to install, and finally the mobile app. Let’s jump in.

The AUKEY Smart Plug is meant to be used indoors. I love how it doesn’t block other sockets when it’s plugged in. The plug uses Wi-Fi to connect to your app, and can work for appliances with up to 1800 watts of power.

Features of the AUKEY Smart Plug

If you’re looking for a plug that’ll allow you to turn off your appliance remotely, you’re in luck. Whether you just left home or are on vacation in France, you can control your plug remotely. You can also create schedules for it so things turn on and off automatically depending on the time of day, and you can create scenes so multiple plugs can be turned on or off at once. On top of that, the plug integrates with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT, so you’ll be able to vocally command it. Truly, turning things on and off has never been easier.

The only feature the AUKEY Smart Plug doesn’t have is energy monitoring. Some plugs allow you to see on their app how much energy you’re using. Obviously, this isn’t a necessary feature, but it would have been a nice addition.

Installing the AUKEY Smart Plug

Installing the AUKEY smart plug took me less than three minutes, and was one of the most straightforward experiences I’ve had installing a smart plug. First I downloaded the AUKEY Home app, making sure that I was on my home’s Wi-Fi. Next, I plugged in the plug and held the power button down for five seconds to get the blue light to blink. From there, I went back into the app and clicked add device, inputting my Wi-Fi password and syncing the app to my smart plug. Overall, setting up my AUKEY smart plug was completely painless!

FAQs

What does a smart plug do?

A smart plug makes a “dumb” object smart by connecting it to the Internet, allowing for remote and voice control.

What is the best smart plug?

The best smart plug is the Aukey Smart Plug. It connects over Wi-Fi to appliances using a maximum of 1800 watts, and it won’t block other outlets. But one thing it has that the others don’t is scenes. No, I’m not not talking about theater. When it comes to smart homes, a scene is a group of devices that turn on or off at the same time. For example, you can create a “reading” scene where your lamp is turned on, your overhead light is turned off, and your fan is on, without you having to turn off these devices individually. It makes controlling your appliances remotely even easier than before (and let’s be honest, pushing a button on an app is already incredibly low-stress). Aside from scenes, Aukey also allows you to create schedules so you can have appliances turn off and automatically at certain times. You’ll control everything from the Aukey Home app, which is loved by iPhone and Android users alike. At only $27.99 for a two pack, these plugs are at a really affordable price point, especially compared to other smart plugs which can go up to $40 for a single plug! With a two-year warranty, you can trust that these smart plugs are made to last.

What is the Amazon Smart Plug?

The Amazon Smart Plug is a smart plug from Amazon that lets you control appliances using 1,800 watts and under remotely. You can set it to schedules or turn it on and off using Alexa voice commands. For remote control, you can use the Alexa app. The Amazon Smart Plug costs $24.99.
