Comparison Overview
Honeywell, 2Gig and GE make some of the best sensors and detectors for home security in the world. Most analysts agree that there is not much difference between each manufacturer. There are plenty of sensor options compatible with your Protection 1, which relies on Honeywell, or Protect America, which uses 2Gig and GE (2Gig and GE are compatible systems).

You must sign three-year, industry-standard contracts to obtain service from either company. Users essentially lease all equipment that is provided free of charge with the packages, though you must purchase any additional sensors at retail cost. Protection 1 and Protect America sell Honeywell or 2Gig/GE components for about the same price.

Both companies offer control panels that are Z-Wave compatible.

Protect America’s monthly fees are less and they provide the same or substantially more equipment than Protection 1 provides.  Learn more about Protect America in our Protect America review.

However, some homeowners may not have the time nor the inclination to install and maintain a DIY system. Some homeowners also may not require the extra sensors provided by Protect America as part of their packages.
